“Ensemble Connect makes a chamber music concert an immersive experience … providing insights into the composer, the work, and the players’ approach … few do it better,” writes Seen and Heard International. In this enlightening program—featured in Carnegie Hall’s Fall of the Weimar Republic: Dancing on the Precipice festival—the ensemble explores Berg’s dramatic Lyric Suite, a string quartet that achieved immediate and lasting popularity long before the discovery of its hidden origins and the illicit affair baked right into its score. Also featured are an early (and for decades unheard) string quartet by Gershwin; a string quartet written by Kurt Weill while he was under the tutelage of Busoni; and Schulhoff’s stylistically fluid Concertino.
Program
